Carbon Neutral
Carbon Neutral
Carbon neutral means that the carbon dioxide emissions generated by an activity or organization have been compensated or eliminated through actions aimed at reducing or removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. This can be done through reducing one’s own emissions, purchasing carbon credits, or funding projects that remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. The goal is to achieve a balance between emissions and the removal of carbon dioxide so that the overall impact on the atmosphere is zero.
“Carbon neutral” must not be confused with “zero emissions” which requires that all emissions be eliminated, rather than compensated. Additionally, “carbon neutral” must not be confused with “carbon friendly” which refers to actions or products that have a low emission impact, but are not necessarily without carbon emissions or entirely compensated.
