CO2 (carbon dioxide) is a gas naturally present in the terrestrial atmosphere. It is found in small quantities in the air that we breathe and is produced by the breathing of animals, by the decomposition of organic matter and by the use of fossil fuels such as oil, gas and coal.

CO2 is also a greenhouse gas, which means that it absorbs and holds the heat into the atmosphere. This is a natural process that maintains the temperature of the earth at habitable levels for humans and for animal and vegetable life. However, the increase in CO2 emissions due to human activity, such as the combustion of fossil fuels and the change of lands, is helping to increase global temperatures and is having an impact on climate change.

For this reason, the control of CO2 emissions and the attempt to reduce them has become an important goal globally to face climate change and protect the environment. There are several strategies to reduce CO2 emissions, such as the use of renewable energy sources, energy efficiency and conservation of forests, which absorb CO2 from the atmosphere.

Almost all human activities produce CO2, including digital activities. That is why, with an increasingly dominant digitalization, companies are embarking on journeys of digital sustainability.
