The Paris Agreement is an international agreement on climate adopted in 2015 during the United Nations COP21 conference on climate change. The Paris Agreement aims to establish a global framework for combating climate change, with the goal of limiting the increase in global average temperature to less than 2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels, with a target of 1.5 degrees Celsius.
The Paris Agreement is based on the idea that each country should adopt voluntary measures to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions and that emissions should be monitored and reported transparently. The Paris Agreement also includes the allocation of funding to help developing countries develop sustainable technologies and cope with the effects of climate change.
The Paris Agreement has been ratified by over 190 countries, making it the widest international agreement ever reached on fighting climate change. However, many countries still have significant progress to make in achieving the emissions reduction targets set out in the agreement.
