Soil erosion is a geological process that occurs when water flows over the surface of the ground, carrying along sediments and soil materials. This process can cause soil erosion, loss of nutrients, and reduction of soil quality, making it less fertile.
Soil erosion can be caused by intense rainfall, runoff of surface waters, lack of vegetation on the ground, construction of structures that prevent water from flowing naturally and, more generally, extreme events resulting from climate change.
To prevent soil erosion, it is important to implement sustainable agricultural practices such as soil conservation and vegetation protection, and to properly manage surface and groundwater.
